The aim of the conference is to explore the similarities, differences and connections between Hungarian and Finnic in terms of languages and cultures. The topics can be chosen from the widest range of related fields of study (contrastive linguistics, literary theory, history, archeology, folklore, language teaching theory, translation theory, etc).

Official languages of the conference: Estonian, Finnish, Hungarian, English. 

Accepted papers are to be published in a peer-reviewed publication. 

During the sessions, a workshop on translation will also be held under the direction of Reet Klettenberg (Tallinn). The language of the workshop is Hungarian. As this conference is intended as a direct continuation of the forums held in Szombathely between 1993 and 2011 with a similar title and/or thematics, and is furthermore dedicated to acknowledging the 100th anniversary of Finnish and Estonian independence, we are honored to have Their Excellencies Petri Tuomi-Nikula, Finland’s ambassador to Hungary, and Rein Oidekivi, Estonia’s ambassador to Hungary, as patrons of the event. 


Anonymous abstracts in the language of the presentation as well as applications for the translation workshop should be submitted via EasyChair: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=kv2017. To use the platform, registration is required. The maximum length of the abstract is 500 words (including examples and references). 


Important dates: 

Deadline for application and uploading the abstracts: 22 February 5 March 2017. (24:00 CET) 

Notification of acceptance of applications and abstracts: not later than 15 March 2017.

Attendance fee (including conference dinner and social events): €50; for under- and postgraduate students: €25.
